My Magnolia Home Living Room
Just about everyone who enjoys home decorating and design is familiar with the name of Joanna Gaines, HGTV’s star of Fixer Upper. Her line of home furnishings and decor, Magnolia Home, is offered through one of my favorite retailers, Pier 1.
I thought it would be fun to create a Living Room using Magnolia Home pieces, which are rustic, elegant and casual, and would look beautiful in any casual style of decor.
My styling plan will begin with the sofa. I want something light, casual and comfy. This particular sofa is from the Pier 1 line, called Lia White Slipcovered Sofa. Note: If you click on a link in this post and decide to purchase something, I will earn a small commission from the sale, which helps me to offset the cost of running this blog and my websites.
It’s a good size for comfort and seating several people, at 87″ wide and 39″ deep. I like the style of the skirt and the slight roll to the arm. So that’s my starting point.
Now to Magnolia Home pieces…starting with the sofa accent pillows and area rug.
I want to use neutrals with shades of gray, blue and a hint of pink in this room, and the accent pillows from Magnolia Home on the sofa will reflect that.
Now I want to add a different pillow shape and size to the mix, as well as bring in an accent color.
The Zander Pink & Ivory Oversized Pillow gives me just what I’m looking for. A subtle pink and ivory, with lots of nubby texture. I love texture in a space…can’t get enough of it.
My sofa is looking really comfy and stylish!
This is the Kivi Ivory Ink Rug. My selection will be about 5′ x 8′ because that’s what I prefer in a living area.
The colors are subtle with a pattern that’s quite interesting without shouting ‘floral’ or ‘paisley’ or anything else specific.
It has a really nice flow to it, so it is going under my feet. 🙂
I’d like a couple of additional seating options. The first is a chair with matching ottoman.
A bit of elegance with a hint of formality in the McClennan Navy Chair and McClennan Ottoman, which I enjoy in one of the pieces in the space. I like my home on the casual side, but a graceful leg and a bit of curve is always welcome. Oh, and you can put you feet up, too 🙂
The Linen Slipper Chair is another graceful look, while remaining casual and comfortable.
I love the tufting on both the seat and chair back, and the casters make the piece easy to move. It’s not a large piece at 26″ wide and 36″ deep, so if your room is large, a pair would do quite nicely.
Something simple with straight lines would be a lovely contrast for our living area, so I’m going to select the Strut Bench Brown Coffee Table:
It is handcrafted of pine, is a size that will work in most rooms, including smaller spaces, and can fit into just about any decorating style. I think it will look great in front of the sofa.
The Petite Rosette Gray Accent table from Magnolia Home is my next selection for our Living Room. I like to incorporate different wood finishes into a space, and this shade of gray will be the perfect contrast to our lighter wood pieces.
It also has a french country feel, and that is consistent with our accent chairs. Nice!
Now I want to add an accent piece that is functional and also adds some visual weight to the room (it is a generous size living area…in my mind 🙂
This 2-piece Dispensary Kettle Cabinet will be the perfect compliment to the space, and give storage as well as display options. At 31″ wide it can be placed almost anywhere in the room. The two pieces are offered individually for added flexibility.
Let’s put something really cool on the wall. I love a big clock, so we’re going to use the Magnolia Home Village Wall Clock. It’s 46″ in diameter so when I say it’s a big clock…it’s a big clock.
I found this rustic Gardener’s Flower Tray in the collection, so we’re going to place that on the coffee table. It’s made of sheet metal so will bring another element into the space, and the gray tones on it will compliment the darker case goods.
Let’s finish the styling of the room with some decor and accessories, all from the Pier 1 line. It won’t include every last thing, but enough to show you the idea of the space as I have visualized it.
We’ll start with a table lamp. I love a lamp that has a bit of a curve to it as well as a birdie or two, in a casually styled space with a bit of a rustic look. This is the Bird & Branch Table Lamp, and it fits the bill to a tee.
It’s a full 29″ high so would work well on an end table or accent table. The shade is antique white and the base has a mottled gold/silver metallic look. Perfect for this space.
This trio of round glass hurricane candle holders would look awesome on the tray that will sit on the coffee table. Simple, a bit of curve, rustic feel. They range in size from 15.25″ high down to 8″ high. Love them.
A lovely piece of art for the wall is my final selection. I want to maintain the overall neutral feel of the space, and found the Framed Dreamy Poppies Art will do this beautifully. I love the frame, the natural overall look of the piece, and the 36″x 36″ size.
